Team WebQoof searched for the source of Kohli’s video on YouTube using the keywords “Virat Kohli Kurta.” We noticed that in the video, which showed Nita Ambani in a pink saree, also showed a microphone with the logo of news agency ANI on it.
This is not the first time that original videos featuring Ambani have been manipulated using synthetic audio to falsely link him to suspicious gaming apps. The Ambanis have been falsely linked to dubious gaming apps through several videos in recent months, the DAU has debunked some of those videos, which had been produced using synthetic audio.

The video is 10-minutes-and-21-seconds long, though, it has only 49-seconds of audio-visual content followed by a series of static scenic images. Detection tools and getting our expert partners to weigh in, we were able to conclude that synthetic audio was used to fabricate the video. At first, we noticed that Ambani’s lip movements were not perfectly matching the words heard in the viral video. The Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) analysed the video and found that it was fabricated using A.I.-generated audio. Based on our observations and analyses from experts, we can conclude that the three videos we reviewed were fabricated using generative A.I. Pointing to the visual artifacts in the video, they added that the teeth of Mr. Ambani are distinctive in real life but less so in this manipulated video.

While we were confident that synthetic audio had been used in the three videos, we wanted to get an expert view on one of Mr. Ambani’s videos in which his lip-sync seemed convincing. ElevenLabs also told the DAU that the audio track in the video featuring Mrs. Ambani is also synthetic. They told us that they could not confirm that the audio track of the video featuring Mr. Ambani and the anchor originated from their platform. For both the videos featuring Mr. Ambani, Hive AI’s deepfake video detection tool did indicate that the videos were manipulated using A.I. The visuals of the dubious app, bundles of money, and the people celebrating could not be found in any of the original videos.

To get an expert analysis on the audio tracks in the videos we escalated the videos to ElevenLabs, a company specialising in voice A.I. While the backdrop, clothing, and body language of the subjects, in the original and manipulated videos are identical, the audio tracks are not.
